OUR HISTORY AT A GLANCE

Since opening our doors in 2020, RELEASE has become a home to over 5,500 dancers in metro Detroit! We have hosted over 3,400 classes, created 75+ jobs/gigs for dancers, and we’re just getting started! In an industry that has always been exclusive, we have created a space that is inclusive. No matter your age, race, skill level, body size or shape, we welcome all. We are dedicated to uniting and supporting dancers in Michigan through classes, workshops, live performances, community events, rehearsal space and more.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create an uplifting and inspiring space where people can engage in the physical and emotional benefits of dance through quality classes that allow dancers to continue their craft and release their true, authentic selves.

At the heart of Detroit, we envision a thriving community of dancers, diverse in background and style, united by a common rhythm. Our vision is to be the catalyst for a dance movement that celebrates the resilience and creativity of Detroit dancers, binding them together in a tapestry of movement and music. In the city that gave rise to Motown, techno, and a legacy of artistic innovation, we see Detroit dancers as ambassadors of a unique cultural heritage. We aim to create a space where these artists, from every corner of the city, can come together, learn from one another, and inspire the world with their passion and authenticity. We seek to be the pulse of this vibrant dance community, providing not only quality classes but also a platform for Detroit dancers to share their stories, experiences, and artistic voices. Our goal is to foster an environment where every dancer, from the streets to the studios, can 'release' their true selves, empowered by the transformative influence of dance. In Detroit, we are more than a dance community; we are a family, bound by our shared love for movement, and we aspire to be a guiding force that unites and elevates every Detroit dancer on a journey of self-expression, empowerment, and the embodiment of the city's indomitable spirit.

• Community over Competition We prioritize unity & support within our dance community, emphasizing collaboration over rivalry. We believe that our collective growth & success are enhanced when we work together & celebrate each other's achievements.

• Ferndale PRIDE Sponsorship RELEASE proudly sponsors PRIDE events & initiatives in support of the LGBTQ+ community. This sponsorship not only demonstrates the studio's commitment to diversity & inclusion but also provides resources & visibility to LGBTQ+ individuals, artists, & organizations.

• Mental Health RELEASE hosts mental health workshops tailored to dancers. Discussion topics include anxiety, depression, body-image, & discrimination. These are all common struggles in day to day life, but especially concerns dancers face regularly. These workshops remind us that we are not alone.

• World of Dance RELEASE partners with World of Dance, providing an opportunity for Michigan dancers & choreographers to showcase their talents on a global stage. This not only promotes the studio but also represents Detroit's vibrant dance scene to a wider audience.

• Master Classes RELEASE brings out renowned dancers & choreographers to conduct master classes. These classes provide an opportunity for local dancers to learn from & connect with industry professionals.

• Rebel Dogs Detroit RELEASE collaborates with organizations like Rebel Dogs Detroit, using dance as a means to support animal welfare causes & raise awareness. Fundraising events & dance performances are organized to aid in the care and adoption of rescue dogs in the Detroit community.

Release represents the emotion and physical ‘release’ we get from dancing. Dance has the power to save lives, it is our healthy outlet. We chose to keep the word-mark fairly simple due to the brand’s use of strong imagery and video. Allowing the artist to take center stage. The font we chose is strong yet minimal.

The negative space represents the emotional feeling behind the name. This studio is a place for creative, physical, and emotional release.
